Keep The Videos Alive: To The Theater

REVIEW: Star Trek-tastic!

Star Trek PosterOkay, so for those of you who read my little blurbs, this is actually one of the movies that made my "Movies That Scare Me" list from a few months ago. I saw a 10:25 showing of it yesterday (it's past midnight, so 10:25 pm on Thursday is now yesterday =P) and was thoroughly surprised by a very fun movie.

I really didn't do anything to profoundly move me, or make me really think, as some other Star Trek movies have done, but it was entertaining, well put together and just darn pretty.

The special effects were just god-aweful AMAZING. The amimation was very crisp and the textures were very well-rendered. You can tell they tried to stay as true to the original series as possible, but give it a little upgrade to take advantage of of our advances special effects technology =P

 Yummy Graphics

The sound design, done by legendary Ben Burtt was a real treat. Every ping, pang a laser pew was candy for the ears. The score was nice, but not really memorable. I'm trying to recall it right now, but all I can think of is generic background tracks.

I thought the movie had some great casting. It was interesting seeing Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) and John Cho (Harold and Kumar) in such a... Well, good movie. Let me just say that there was this truly excellent scene with Chris Pine (Captain Kirk) in his underwear, and WOW did he look good in them... Let's just say it's given me some good material to... Uh... Set my phaser to splooge to tonight (LoL).Kirk in his underoos

I like Zachary Quinto as a good guy. He makes a hot bad guy (I was the queer who said, "Look! Sylar's back again!" when he made his first appearance on screen), but an even hotter good guy (I have a thing for pointy ears, so sue me!) Zoe Saldana rocked it out as Uhura and totally rocked her sex appeal as well.

 Captain Kirk ^_^

JJ Abrams really does like his explosions and crazy fight scenes. There was much less talk and tactics and much more punch-Captain-Kirk-until-he's-bleeding-on-the-floor. It would have been nice if the plot had stayed more on course and if the movie was slightly more thought-provoking (the only thoughts it really made me think were, "When is Captain Kirk gonna be naked again?" and "This story reminds me of a Marvel comic I once read...")

Still, it was delicious and I'll make to have it against at least once more whil I can see it on a really big screen.

Maybe it's that I went to the movie with no expectations whatsoever that I enjoyed it so much. Or maybe it's because Kirk and SpockI'm a Star Wars junkie and never paid too much attention to Star Trek (the Trekker in my family happens to be my sister... Who'da thunk it?!) Either way, it gets my approval.

I'm giving it four and a half black holes out of five!

Check it out while it's in theaters!

(Sorry this is a little short, I have work and and then finals tomorrow and have to wake up in four hours =) Toodles!)
